Connecting Shopify to SnelStart

There are two common routes: the connection from S for Software — €250 one-off plus from €15 per month (SnelStart.nl, 2026) — and a cloud subscription such as Combidesk from $18 per month (Shopify App Store, 2026). The choice comes down to one question that is rarely asked out loud: do you only want to post revenue, or also keep inventory and items in sync?

The connection

Which Shopify–SnelStart connection suits you?

The connection SnelStart itself names on its site comes from S for Software: €250 one-off (excl. VAT) plus a monthly fee from €15, and it synchronises orders, customer details and inventory movements (SnelStart.nl, 2026). Alongside that there are cloud subscriptions: Combidesk from $18 per month via the Shopify App Store and SnelKoppeling.eu from €32.95 per month. Strikingly, almost no one compares those routes, even though they differ substantially in setup: a connection that sits close to your SnelStart package and includes inventory and items, versus a lightweight cloud app that mainly posts your revenue and requires nothing to install. What such an automated flow looks like, you can see in the Flow Lab; what the custom route costs, you can read in What does an API integration cost?

If you work with e-Boekhouden.nl instead of SnelStart, read Connecting Shopify to e-Boekhouden.nl. If, alongside your webshop, you have a physical store with a Lightspeed till, then Connecting Lightspeed to Exact Online is the comparable story for the point-of-sale side. You'll find all combinations in the integrations overview.

The price of S for Software is built up from modules: entries €15, orders €27.50, and inventory or items €20 per month extra each (SnelStart.nl, 2026). So calculate with the modules you actually need — anyone who only wants to post revenue is cheaper off than someone who takes the full package. Also check which SnelStart package the connection works with: S for Software mentions inBalans, inZicht, inControle and inHandel; Combidesk runs entirely in the cloud and requires no installation.

What comes across

What does and doesn't sync with SnelStart?

Orders with customer details and VAT go across automatically with all routes; the big difference lies in inventory and items. Those only go across with S for Software and SnelKoppeling.eu — as a (paid) module — and not with the Combidesk cloud app, which focuses on posting revenue.

Standard or custom?

Three questions that decide the choice.

01

Do you only want to post revenue, or also keep inventory in sync?

Revenue only → a cloud app such as Combidesk is the lightest route. Also inventory and items → S for Software or SnelKoppeling.eu, because that's where the inventory module comes as standard in the offering.

02

Invest once or a fixed subscription?

Work out both routes over three years: €250 one-off plus the modules you really use, versus an ongoing subscription. Yes, you'll stay on the same setup for years → the one-off route often works out more favourably. No, you want to be able to cancel monthly → a subscription fits better.

03

Does your process fit within the standard settings?

Yes → choose one of the standard routes and use the trial period. No — multiple sales channels, custom ledger lines per product group, B2B price agreements — → an automation tool or custom work on the API.

The rule of thumb: choose on process, not on price tag — the difference between the routes over a year is smaller than one afternoon spent manually reversing inventory corrections.

Pitfalls

Where this connection goes wrong in practice.

Comparing one-off and subscription over different periods

€250 up front looks more expensive than $18 per month, but over three years it can turn out the other way. Line up both routes for the modules you actually use, over the same period.

Letting inventory live in two places

If you synchronise inventory two ways, agree which system is leading. Two truths side by side lead to out-of-stock sales in the store or oversells in the webshop — choose one source and let the rest follow.

Not testing refunds and returns

The order went into the administration automatically, the return didn't — and after a quarter nothing reconciles anymore. Test the credit scenario and a partially refunded order before going live, in a test administration.

Overlooking the SnelStart version

Not every connection works with every SnelStart package. S for Software mentions inBalans, inZicht, inControle and inHandel (SnelStart.nl, 2026); before you choose, check that your package and subscription type are supported.

Frequently asked questions

What webshop owners ask us beforehand.

What does a Shopify–SnelStart connection cost?

S for Software charges €250 one-off (excl. VAT) plus a monthly fee from €15, depending on the modules; Combidesk starts at $18 per month and SnelKoppeling.eu at €32.95 per month (SnelStart.nl, Shopify App Store and SnelKoppeling.eu, 2026). If you have the setup and testing done for you, that usually falls in the range of an indicative €500 to €2,000; custom development on the API costs an indicative €1,500 to €15,000 one-off.

How quickly is the connection live?

A standard connection is technically running within a day, but count on a few days to a week to configure and test ledger accounts, VAT rates and edge cases such as returns. If you also synchronise inventory and items, allow more time: that setup requires clean product data and a test round per scenario. Custom work takes several weeks instead.

What if the connection stops or can no longer handle my volume?

Your administration simply stays put: the entries in SnelStart are not lost. Because several suppliers connect to the same SnelStart environment, you switch to a different connection or to custom work — that is mainly reconfiguring and testing, not a migration of your bookkeeping.

Who keeps an eye on whether the connection keeps running?

By default, no one — errors are usually reported by email, and that email does have to be read. Especially if you synchronise inventory, you want to know immediately when the connection stalls. Agree internally who periodically checks that the entries and inventory levels reconcile, or have the connection managed and monitored externally.

Do I need to switch from SnelStart to another accounting package?

No. SnelStart connects to Shopify perfectly well via several suppliers, so the webshop is no reason to switch. Do check which SnelStart package the chosen connection works with; S for Software mentions inBalans, inZicht, inControle and inHandel, for example (SnelStart.nl, 2026). Only with structurally different needs does a package change become worth considering.
